From our superb Rioja producers, Montecillo, here is another wine from their Singladuras range. Winemaker Mercedes Garcia works closely with growers in ‘other’ famous regions, in this case Rías Baixas, to create exemplary expressions of grape and terroir.
Hand-harvested; maceration with the skins in small steel tanks at low temperature over four days; gentle press and fermentation at 16 degrees C over three weeks. This delightful Albariño is from 40-year-old bush vines in the superior area of El Salnés, and what a lovely Galician white it is. Aromas of white flowers and ripe apricot mingle with subtle saline notes on the nose, all of which carry on to the palate. Long and careful lees ageing adds complexity and texture, and the finish is outstanding. Taste this, close your eyes and visualise those Galician octopus and scallops; utterly delicious!
