This stunning Rioja Gran Reserva “22 Barricas” was named in homage to Celestino Navajas, the founder of Montecillo who used to reserve wine from the winery's smallest oak vat for ageing in 22 oak barrels. This complex blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha and Mazuelo emulates his traditional winemaking style. After spending 30 months in new French oak, followed by a minimum of 5 years ageing in bottle, the resulting wine is robust and deliciously smooth with a very long finish. Seductive from the get-go, boasting an array of dark fruit character with undertones of tobacco and leather. This wine would benefit from decanting, giving the wine the opportunity to open up even more. A truly spectacular creation!
“Complex and intriguing, with a savoury appeal to its dark fruit and elegant yet grippy tannins. Promises a distinguished future.”
