Who in their right mind doesn’t love Txakoli?
Finding this wine was nothing short of a Christmas morning moment for Las Bodegas; kids with a shiny new toy and all that. We first met Jon Oliden back in 2016 and instantly fell in love with his wine, made from Hondarrabi Zuri grapes in this unique, windswept terroir for delicious, bone-dry, super-fruity wines with a delicate pétillance on the tongue and a subtle saline note on the finish.
Founded in 1834, Bodega Aizpurua is actually the oldest winery in the region, situated in Getaria, halfway between sea-level and the top of the mountain, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Getariako Txakolina D.O. is in Spain’s far north western Gipuzkoa Province with some 400 hectares under vine, planted mainly in the coastal areas. This wonderful example of regional, artisanal produce epitomises the uniqueness and irresistibility of Txakoli, and not just on Christmas morning!
