Boris Kovac's Malbec grapes are grown in the Minervois where they generally achieve very good ripeness. Until 2009 (the first vintage of Le Malbec) the grapes were only ever used to prop up blends. In fact Boris thought it was a bit strange us asking for single varietal Malbec from the Languedoc. He definitely gets it now though. The wine is dark purple in colour as you would expect from Malbec, and the nose is great, plenty of black cherry and spice with lovely floral notes, hibiscus and violets in particular. Full-bodied, soft and juicy. Every year we blend a little of something else, often 10% Syrah as in 2013. In 2014 we blended the Malbec with 10% Marselan, which is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. It pumps up the colour a tad and has lovely aromatic qualities.
