From La Cayetana, this was the clincher. Does anyone really think of Syrah when they think of Argentina? This wine is a game-changer with its riotous nose of capsicum, crushed black peppercorns and brambles. Wonderfully giving in the mouth with lots of assorted spices, silky dark fruits and chocolately overtones. The tannins tiptoe on a trapeze that finishes with a big happy slap of drinkability on the end. Fresh, juicy and expressive yet strangely under-stated and, again, a wine to watch if you have the patience to leave it alone for a few years. Where’s the fun in that?
