OK, prepare yourselves for this... Torrontés made in the style of Vin Jaune! Brown-gold and cloudy, it looks like a very old vintage of Yquem, it smells like an oxidised dessert wine yet it is bone dry in the same way that you might describe a very good Fino sherry! It's made like a red wine, on the skins, open fermentation, the nose is amazing, so exotic and a little bit weird / scary. This isn't for everyone but we love it and we know some others will too. Every hat in the house goes off to Matias Micheilini for this bizarre, brave experiment. And hey, if Las Bodegas doesn't bring in wines like this, who else is going to?
"One of the best examples of Argentina's near native white grape, this comes from an old pergola vineyard in Tupungato. It spends 100 days on skins and 18 months in old barrels and is highly unusual: savoury, mineral and slightly bitter, but in a nice way that makes it work well with food."
